Welcome to In the Limelight where we introduce you to some of our team. While you may recognize their names, we wanted to go a bit deeper and let them provide some insight into the world of additive through their perspective.

This past week we sat down with Regional Sales Manager, Kevin Luo. This is what he had to say about his experiences in additive and what makes him love his job…

 On inspiration and driving the next generation… 

It doesn’t take much to inspire me at SLM Solutions. I get to provide a technology that will produce the next generation of products like space propulsion hardware and antenna and radio frequency components! It still amazes me what our customers can design with the SLM process.

On how the gift of the gab can lead you to sell powder for a living…

In 2017, I was given the opportunity to be a Product Manager at Praxair Surface Technologies since I was an engineer that talks a lot. When I asked what products I was going to support, the answer was material for metal 3D printing. I was sold on the spot. I spent the next two years selling powder to a variety of industries. I was then given the opportunity to sell metal AM machines at FormAlloy in the San Diego area. Both experiences allowed me to hit the ground running in the most widely adopted technology in the metal AM space!

On the people that surround him…
I like the people around me (colleagues and customers). Internally, I have a great team that supports me in delivering solutions to customers and provides mentorship to help me achieve my goals. Externally, I get to work with amazing customers that will bring about positive change to the world!

On innovation, and seeing excitement firsthand…

What drew me to work at SLM Solutions is its commitment to innovation. Each year the company puts a large percentage of its revenue back into R&D to release products well ahead of the competition. As someone in sales, I get to present a unique value proposition to potential customers and see their excitement firsthand!

Kevin Luo is the Regional Sales Manager at SLM Solutions for the Northwest and Mountain States in the US and Western Canada. He is focused on enabling customers to create high-quality and complex metal products that were previously unimaginable. Kevin previously held roles as a Business Development Manager at FormAlloy, a Product Manager at Praxair Surface Technologies, and an Engineer at GE Power. He has a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in Mechanical Engineering.
