SLM Solutions at the Farnborough International Airshow 2018: Additive Manufacturing Technology in the Aerospace Industry

Large Aviation Show in Great Britain from July 16 to 22, 2018

Lübeck, July 3, 2018. SLM Solutions Group AG is exhibiting for the first time at the Farnborough International Airshow from July 16 to 22, 2018. At Booth 41364 in Hall 4, the leading manufacturer of metal-based additive manufacturing machines will present its complete portfolio of machines, materials and innovative technologies for the aerospace industry.

The Farnborough International Airshow is the most important trade fair of its kind in the UK and is the second largest industry event. The trade fair deals with the great changes in the complete range of Aerospace 4.0 manufacturing. This exhibition brings together users and technology and provides the opportunity to discuss and jointly exploit potential and possibilities.

SLM Solutions Group AG is a pioneer in metal-based additive manufacturing and is a long-standing supplier for aerospace companies. Trade fair visitors will be provided with a complete overview of machines, materials and services at Booth 41364 in Hall 4.  Many well-known aerospace companies are among the early users of metal-based additive manufacturing and have been discussing this with SLM Solutions Group AG from the beginning. Today, global manufacturers, suppliers, and MRO businesses in the aerospace industry use additive SLM® technology to optimize their manufacturing and production processes as well as to achieve material and weight savings to reduce fuel consumption and CO² emissions.

The savings of costs, time and weight will be shown in many practical examples, such as the gooseneck bracket, a structural component of mechanics for a leading edge flap. “In the course of an optimization project, ASCO - a Belgian aerospace company - and SLM Solutions chose a common approach to achieve the best design for the new gooseneck bracket. We were able to convince with the project: the twin laser technology of SLM® machines helped to reduce construction time by 42%, achieve savings of 31% in weight and significantly improve the buy-to-fly ratio,” Stefan Ritt explained, Vice President and Head of Global Marketing and Communications at SLM Solutions Group AG.
