Korea National University of Transportation (KNUT) and SLM Solutions Sign MoU to set up Application Center in Korea

Frankfurt, Germany -November 16, 2022. Korea National University of Transportation (KNUT) and SLM Solutions today formally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Formnext exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, to jointly set up an application center on the KNUT campus. Together with FusionTech the companies will collaborate on different projects to increase the awareness and adoption of AM amongst businesses in Korea. Numerous SLM® machines are deployed within the center.

The objective of the establishment of the new application center in KNUT is also to jointly work on various projects like the testing of SLM Solutions support free revolution Free Float on IN718 in larger layer thickness and quality improvements and fatigue property investigations on IN718. Therefore, several SLM® machines, like the SLM®280 and SLM®125 will be used.

Professor Sung-Jun Park of KNUT explains: “KNUT is very proud to assume the role of the SLM Solutions domestic Application Center in Korea. Through a practical Application Center MOU, KNUT will receive SLM's advanced AM technology to supply high-quality prints to domestic and foreign markets and to increase equipment utilization. In addition, I believe that SLM will be used as a base for immediate response to customer needs and securing sales opportunities.”

Both parties desire to cooperate with each other in effort to push the boundaries of selective laser melting technology as well as to collaborate in other relevant matters, in the field of industrial & research development of metal additive manufacturing in the Republic of Korea.
